Application for Assistance Criteria
To apply for reduced fees or free lessons at Simplifying School, please ensure you meet the following criteria and provide the required documentation. This helps us support those who genuinely need assistance and prevents misuse of the program. Please note there are limited spaces available each term.
1. Income Verification
- Pay Slips: Recent pay slips (last three months) for all working family members.
- Proof of Unemployment: Unemployment benefit statements, termination letters, or proof of job search efforts.
- Bank Statements: Recent bank statements (last three months) to assess financial activity and stability.
- Income Tax Returns: Recent tax returns to provide a comprehensive view of income sources.

2. Financial Hardship Statements
- Detailed Statement: A written statement detailing the family's financial situation, including monthly expenses, debts, and any other financial obligations.
- Expense Documentation: Receipts or statements for significant expenses such as rent/mortgage, utilities, medical bills, and childcare.
- Emergency Situations: Documentation of any recent emergency situations or unexpected expenses that have impacted financial stability.

3. Proof of Government Assistance or Low-Income Status
- Government Assistance: Documentation of any government assistance programs being received (e.g., child support, food stamps, housing assistance).
- Low-Income Certification: Proof of eligibility for low-income programs, such as certificates or letters from social services or local authorities.

- Essay Requirements: A personal essay (300-500 words) from the student or their guardian explaining their financial situation, the reasons for seeking assistance, and how receiving support would impact their education and overall well-being.
- Assessment Criteria: Evaluate the essay based on clarity, honesty, and the specific circumstances described. Look for genuine need rather than general dissatisfaction or desire for free services.

5. Additional Criteria
- Community or School Recommendations: Obtain letters of recommendation or support from community leaders, teachers, or school counselors who can attest to the family's financial situation and need for assistance.
- Previous Assistance:Check if the student or family has previously applied for or received assistance from other programs. If so, we will request a statement explaining why continued assistance is necessary.
- Family Size and Dependency: Consider the number of dependents in the household and the overall family size, which can impact financial needs.
